A flu vaccination can help to prevent the flu

The flu vaccine can help to protect you and your loved ones from infection caused by the influenza virus. The more people who are vaccinated in the community, the less likely it is for the disease to spread. This is called ‘herd immunity’. Because the strains of flu virus constantly change every year, the vaccine composition is reviewed and updated as needed, based on the most common circulating strains, and how effective the previous season’s vaccine was in protecting against those viruses.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, each of us have adjusted to taking extra measures to help avoid the spread of the virus. While social distancing and hygiene help with reduced transmission, a vaccination is the best way to help protect yourself and prevent the spread of contagious diseases, and until recently, no such vaccine for COVID-19 has been available.

The Australian Government have been working to provide a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine, aiming to have as many Australians vaccinated as possible in 2021. Community pharmacies are a critical partner in helping to achieve this goal and will be administering COVID-19 vaccinations from 2021 and onwards
